Jon Nichols
Jon began riding motorcycle in 1966 and has been wrenching on motorcycles, cars and antique airplanes since he was a teen. In 1991, after purchasing his first Ducati (an 851 Superbike) not being satisfied with its stock performance, Jon began a regime of steady performance enhancements that continues to this day.
An Accomplished machinist and mechanical designer (Nichols Manufacturing, started in 1979 by Jon and his wife Lettie, is an aerospace machine shop), Jon has machined engine parts substantially lighter than the stock Ducati parts; first a greatly lightened flywheel, then an aluminum flywheel, then a clutch basket, and other performance parts located in the Products section of this site.
Jon has been an instructor at Jason Pridmore’s Star Motorcycle School since 1999, and according to Jason: “You didn’t know that Nichols picks up revs a lot faster than most. He goes to 11”!
In 1993, after sensing a need for personalized Ducati service in the Bay Area, Jon and Lettie opened Nichols Sport Bikes, occupying 2,500 square feet, with four service bays, staffed by the following service technicians:
